unpacking virtual boxes....
When I moved here from the old place I hoped to transfer most of that over here. This is the latest step in that move...unpacking so to speak. It is apt to have this four minute video on here today as it gives a small sense of how Ledgers developed...visiting old sketchbooks, taking something from each of them and bringing it all together. The next run of Ledgers begins in less than two weeks and there are very few places left which is amazing...thank you. Before we start on September 26 you may get to see some of my practice runs on here, a little doodling on camera perhaps.
You will also definitely get to see some of the video from the old place over the next weeks. There are some things I just can't leave behind.
Exciting things are happening over on flickr too. Please go have a look at what the girls are creating in extending embellishment...it is fantastic. Just go here for that. And Sara has started a new group centred around tables, the stuff we have accumulating on them. As you know my own table is always covered in junk! The group has the potential to grow into a fascinating archive of images and the more contributors the better. To sign up or browse then just go here.
Is it just me or is today's offering reminiscent of a public service broadcast? So don't cross the road without looking both ways, don't leave naked flames near upholstery....you know the drill and a pat on the back for me because I didn't forget to upload the video this time!

two......
I
must confess that these aren't new pieces but I do have a reason for
having them around me at the moment. If you remember a while ago I took
everything out of my etsy shop. This morning I have been sorting out,
rummaging, deciding which things I need to keep and those I don't. I
will gradually start putting the etsy stock on Big Cartel
and these two samples went in there about five minutes ago. Who knew
that moving blogs, moving shops could take this long, take this much
computer time? Anyway...I'm happy. Something else is ticked off the
list.
My table proved popular yesterday. I definitely get my money's worth out of that table..we eat on it every day, it extends for big cloth and Christmas lunch, it wipes clean....I wonder if the shop where I bought it would employ me as a promotions assistant??!! There were a few yes please comments to a regular table post, a couple of which suggested a regular day for those. That wasn't what I had in mind though...my own table offerings would be more random. I don't like being pinned down to a day...I almost always fail to keep up, miss deadlines. I am rubbish at deadlines being easily distracted and everything. Sorry about that but it doesn't mean you can't do it on a set day.
Work on my festooned cloth, my veil like structure continues...I continue to love it, adore it, savour every stitch. My concern? You will get sick of the sight of it as I fear it will be around for quite some time.

this is all I have.....
I am so late...don't know why you bother coming here at all. Just a table today, a tatty table too. These are the things demanding my attention today along with a video camera and some paper work. You know those days when nothing goes to plan? Well that's my day so far. Still what is it they say...''things can only get better''. It's onwards and upwards then and it's not all bad. See that dark thing on the right? I just found that after about eight years!!!! I don't particularly love it or anything but it just feels good to know it survived. And there are similarities aren't there...can you see them?
Then I got to thinking...my table has featured on here quite a bit lately. Maybe I could do a once weekly table post. Pile it with junk a bit like a rummage sale....what do you think?

Love......
I
love this cloth more every time I add to it....I do think that when it
is finished I will need to make another video to give you a better
impression of the piece and point out certain areas that don't show up
as well in photographs alone.
I draped it over a butty box today so that it would hang better...(there is a definition...any excuse to put a definition on here!!)
I have plans for this afternoon which centre on adding to this, making new sections, new adornments, more hexagons. Technically class finishes this week. My cloth will take longer. I really have no desire to rush this.........I have a desire to savour it.

just this.....finished
Remember this? It's now finished, damp stretched and actually, since these pictures were taken it has been added to the main cloth. I have put together a short video in the hope that you will get a better sense of this, the lightness and delicacy. Be warned...the video ends abruptly. That says a lot about why I am an embroiderer and not a film maker.
And in case you missed it, my latest newsletter is now out.....mostly babble but a lovely wedding picture. You can peruse that here. Can't stay long today....I have to go buy an embroidery hoop....I'm wearing them out.
OOPS!!! In my excitement at going embroidery hoop shopping I forget to put the video on here. Told you I was dim.....thanks Deanna! You're a star!

hexagons and a newsletter....
Apart
from ''newslettering'' yesterday was about hexagons, lace hexagons for
patchwork, an edge. That's all basically, nothing exciting or
adventurous although lace makes me weak at the knees and I love a
hexagon so for me the excitement levels were raised a bit.
The newslettering was productive too...it is done, finished, complete. If it didn't drop in your inbox earlier then you can read it here and it has its own special page on the blog too...just look up. There is a wedding picture, a little babble and the big news....embroider, embellish, create is relisted. The early listing is to give me a sense of numbers, demand, required preperation and planning...that kind of stuff.
I also made you a video yesterday, come back tomorrow for that.....I'm off to make myself a peppermint tea....have a lovely Sunday!!

continuing......
Im
late today......sorry. I have been newslettering all morning and I'm
still not finished. I have been making a video too. Then I was ironing
cloth, ironing scrappy bits of edges, folding them neatly and putting
them away. Then I took these pictures....last nights work. Another
section joined and some dangly titivations added to a seam.
This afternoon I plan to continue newslettering.....It's looking more likely by the minute that embroider, embellish create will run again soon. Things will change slightly in terms of timing etc but more of that when I get the newsletter finished. It is quite hard to put an interesting newsletter together when you never leave the house and don't do anything. I may be able to find a wedding picture...not of me...but I am struggling I can tell you. Maybe I should make up a big adventure......oh and I am going to Blackpool soon to see the lights. Now that is news!

just this......
A
tiny open section, that's all I have to show you today. Please don't
think I haven't been working hard though. I have been writing down a lot
of waffle and such...does that count? I am aiming for a newsletter this
weekend. Fingers and toes are crossed. If I wade through my chores like
a good little housewife then it should be achievable.
Last night my computer screen died.....just as I was about to go to bed. After a frantic ten minutes of unplugging wires, changing wires, a little colourful language and one huge tantrum I gave up. This morning I have resolved the issue....basically parting with money to get a new one.
Public service announcement now.......
Kirsty...you signed up for ledgers this morning.
Your e mail keeps bouncing back.
Can you please get in touch with an alternative e mail address so I can send you all the info.

I quite like it here......
Not
chaos more a collection. A collection of stuff that is helping me
today. It is helping me decide where I am going creatively, what comes
next, what I need to do now. The damp stretching has to be removed from
the board, the samples need to be put away, the cloth needs more work.
This was the first thing I did when I got up today, well after my caffeine shot that is and I thought how good it was to be surrounded by these things. Now I wish I never had to put stuff away so we can eat or iron or do 'normal' needing the table things.
I bought new lace. You can see it clearly in the second picture, in the middle. Isn't it gorgeous. There are two pieces there and more on its way. I trawled the internet for hours looking for lace that I liked. There is a lot of rubbish lace out there I can tell you. Both these pieces are vintage and cost £15 for the two including postage. I think they were a bargain. Who needs clothes, shoes, frippery? Give me vintage lace any time. The top piece, a collar is a double piece. You probably can't tell from looking here but there is the same amount again underneath.
I wanted to say thanks for the suggestions yesterday re ''embroider, embellish, create''. I am still pondering. I have taken everything on board and when I decide you will be the first to know. Corrine asked a question in the comment section. I tried to mail you Corrine and it bouncced back but basically Corrine wanted to know the format of class in terms of access to resources. Embroider, embellish, create came wth permanent access to all resources both times it ran before and would be the same again. Video, PDF documents, me....all yours forever. Now I need to go and doodle with a pen, make notes, write down the rubbish that comes from my thought processes and get back to you with my plans. I hope that's OK........

hexagon show and tell along with mirrors in progress.....
Today
you have a short video. Why? Well I am hoping it will enable you to see
the hexagon seam clearly but failing that the reverse of the seam is
visible on the left in the top image and on its own in the last image.
There are also mirrors in progress here....an idea I had whilst putting
videos together for Friday's class. Can't say more about those until the
girls have seen them on Friday but suffice to say I was enormously
frustrated last night when I couldn't get these damp stretched for
today. I ran out of time, bed was calling, they weren't
finished.....such is life.
I have had a few enquiries about 'embroider, embellish, create''.....I have a dilemma. I could list it again and see who signs up BUT....If I didn't get enough takers I wouldn't be able to run it. It is such an all consuming class that without a minimum number it really wouldn't be possible. Then I could refund if I don't get enough by a certain date....what to do....What would you do?
Back to the here and now though...the video. A little chat about this piece with the hexagons and definitely a much better way of examining this delicate cloth that is evolving beautifully...(in my opinion)

a seam....a join.....
The templates have been removed from the patchwork lace. It is most visible in the centre of the top image. That patchwork seam forms a join between two sections, a third section was then added to those with a lace seam...gently stitched into place.
Going forward, I have another much larger section ready to be damp stretched along with a plan for further sections. I will continue to join them in this way, lace patchwork seams in some places and plain lace seams in others.
Tomorrow I may make a short video to show this piece more clearly. Sometimes it is hard to get an image you are completely happy with.

hexagons.....for the edge.
three whole days and this is all I have to show you...disgraceful! Hexagons, lace ones, attached to form an edge on my festooned cloth/veil which as of today are actually no longer an edge, more a join, a seam. More of that tomorrow. Ignore the horrendous tacking. Have you any idea how hard it is to tack lace to a hexagon? Go on...try.
Anyway...three whole days. I wasn't here.....I was partying, avoiding the photographer and generally having a ball. There are pictures here and here. Conveniently I was in the loo when these were taken..oops! Shame.....
I'm not quite back in my stride, kind of jet lagged although I only went 75 miles. No I don't get it either. Strange bed? Too much fun? The fact that I never drink alcohol but had one glass of bucks fizz?...who knows.

bits and bobs.....
I
thought I would give you a break from my current veil obsession and
share some tiny samples that I have created in my efforts to evolve into
a good teacher. I also wanted to explain my absence...a future absence.
My daughter and her new FIANCEE are coming today...note the fiancee
word! I will spare you a definition....for today anyway. We are then
travelling ''up north'' to a family wedding on Saturday. I will be gone
for two days...shocker!! (you know you will miss me) I will be here
tomorrow...I think...but may be slower than usual in replying to mail
etc. Begging forgiveness in advance......
BUT......if you do begin to pine....there are videos here and here...

different
It is different I promise. If you watch the video you will see. The video is only 2 minutes long....
I have decided to call this my veil...not cobweb. I have an aversion to spiders. I am not talking about veil in the wedding sense either. You will see that I am indulging my love 0f definitions again but with a reason. Note the alternative definitions.......

white, frothy, soft, in my hoop....
Remember I said you would be seeing a lot of this kind of thing...the white lace/scrim/embroidered/festooned thing? Don't say you weren't warned. Last nights effort was cutwork, delicate lace in the holes and a little extra buttonhole stitch to create the softer, looser edges. This will continue this evening too so goodness knows what I am going to show you tomorrow. It may be time to scavenge for old sketchbooks or something...look back through my old blog for images I can hope you have forgotten about. Perhaps I could re visit the past in a nostalgic way...... just re post and old post. Would that be cheating? Most likely yes.
I could always just not bother tomorrow I hear you say...not a chance. I get withdrawals...you know I do!
I also fear that it's time for the naughty step again. I couldn't possibly tell you what time I went to bed last night you would recoil in horror. Safe to say I was late getting up this morning so my plans have gone awry. Thing is I love to stay up late but I NEED to get up early to get things done. I think it's time my little boy came back from his travels...my commitment to get him to work in the morning means I have no choice but to get myself out of bed....come home James...pretty please.
08/27/2012
can't keep away.....
Don't be fooled...I am still up to my eyes in it. Well at least I should be. I made good progress yesterday when I was gone but there is a lot of ticking off the list left to do. I am on it...honest. I even have a lot of housework I want to do, yes WANT to do. It makes me feel good if I manage to do a little of the domestic too.
I really missed you yesterday though so that's why I didn't disappear for longer. I am such a sap......a proper wuss. This is where I am up to with my ''festooned'' cloth...it's coming along very nicely. I am more than happy.
and please pop over here to see what the girls are doing...they would love that.

An Embroiderers Ledger
An
Embroiderers Ledger, the online learning programme is starting again in
September for the second time. Today I thought it would be a good idea
to make a short video about some of the things we will be doing, a few
peeks at my own ledger and a little bit of chat about the class.
There is more information here and you can also go here to read more and register.
For the next three days I have solitude....a lot of time to spend alone and get through numerous things that I am really looking forward to. Most of it creative, a little admin and titivating of pages etc and a lot of e mail answering. I may take some time away from here.....at the moment making that decision frees me a little to get more done, in my head at least. That's not to say that I won't get through my list quicker than I imagine and be back tomorrow...who knows. But if I do disappear at least you know where I am, incarcerated alone, beavering away and loving every minute.

love.....again
Yes...I'm
in love again. No it's not David Beckham it's cloth....this is what I
want to do...all day every day. These are for my festooned cloth....they
will either form a section of it or they will inform what comes next.
Basically who cares....they can hang a round here without a purpose for
as long as they like.
My weekend is planned, more of this and then more of this.....

little bumpy thingy's....
I
am adding little bumpy things to the second part of my cobwebby
festooned cloth...along with more mirrors. I do have another process I
want to use on this piece but I can't share that yet. You know the
drill, the girls have to see it in school first. I will show you
tomorrow I promise and I absolutely love the pictures so am hoping you
will too.
I can't stop playing this....at least ten times already today. It makes me want to weep.....
