cut and pinned
Last
night I cut up the controversial piece of cloth and added it to two
sections of my veil/festooned/lacey cloth. At the moment it is all
pinned waiting to be embellished. Along two of the new seams I have
added lace inserts. Later today i will begin to embroider on this again
and the next stage will be creating more cloth to add to this growing
piece.
There have been conversations about shoes here. We have reached a compromise. I am assured that some will go into the rubbish and others will be kept in the bottom of wardrobes. Ever the optimist I am going to believe this and start looking for wallpaper.
Now an apology.....I have put word verification on here. I hope it is only temporary. I had no choice....fifty spam comments today alone. Typepad has an anti spam filter that you can install. I wish someone would tell them that not all of us are of the computer genius tribe. I basically haven't got a clue how to do it. I know I have to install a code, I can do that. I just don't know where I put the code. I am mailing the HELP department.....

the next page
More from my ledger, my second spread. This isn't finished....I was working on it last night and hope to show you what else I have done when the girls have seen it. If I am quick enought today I may get class up early again as there is something else I want to squeeze in to our schedule. You probably don't care about that though so I'm sorry to go on......embroidery, that's what you care about. Tonight I plan to cut that cloth up...yes, actually take scissors to it. It will then be joined in various places and you will see that...I'm sure that will interest you more than my thinking out loud about class schedules.
Do you want some boring life information, general day to day stuff? I went to the supermarket this morning, Worst chore EVER. It takes just as long to put it all away when you get home as it does to buy and pack it the other end...a gripe. I need to get over it........it isn't going to go away. Today I feel a bit yuk again all of a sudden, like the head cold is lingering. That doesn't make me happy in any way............... I will try and ignore it.
I want to have my hall decorated.......the entrance bit to my house, inside. It isn't big, it is long and very narrow. There are no stairs. I live in a tiny house where the stairs go up the back from the kitchen. My dilemma? I am sick to death of shoes. We don't wear shoes in the house, we leave them in the hall. I have shoe racks but the shoes multiply, nobody throws their old ones away. I have the least amout of shoes in this house. I am female, I live with two men. Work that one out. Do I want to get my hall beautifully decorated to have it looking like a dumping ground for shoes? At the moment that is my biggest irritation......I know, it could be worse. I count my blessings.

to clarify.....
Today I had planned to show you more of my Ledger....and thanks for the great comments on that yesterday...I really appreciate them. But...since I showed the video on stretching earlier in the week I have had so many mails from people saying ''don't cut that cloth up it's beautiful'' that I felt I should clarify that situation, the reason I created that particular piece and to demonstrate that cutting it up will be a good thing, a positive thing. So you have a 90 second video.....the next Ledger installment will be tomorrow and it won't be early. I have the dreaded supermarket run on Friday mornings.
One last thing......I am getting a LOT of spam comments. I noticed that they tend to happen when I have a visitor from India on my site. I do not want to put word verification on here, that would affect the nice people who visit but note.....SPAM comments WILL be deleted so basically you are wasting your time.

a look inside my ledger.....
I'm
early again! I was early to class too, yesterday to be precise. Not
sure what's happening. I doubt I have morphed into someone super
organised overnight....it's a mystery. I am making the most of it while
it lasts though.
This is my ledger so far...well not the whole thing, there is other stuff in progress and you will get to see it eventually. Painting is planned for later today....and embroidery...there is always embroidery.

cotton perle
I
am continuing to embroider with cotton perle on my white cloth whilst I
stalk the post man. He hasn't been yet...In case you didn't know I am
waiting for coton a broder...I have been waiting a LONG time. This piece
was picked up last night after I had finished ''ledgering''. Up to now
there are bullion knots, web stitches and the start of a little
cutwork....
I am more than happy with how my own ledger is evolving, new inspiration, different colour and I shall let you see more of that next time. If you want to see the great stuff being produced in class then just go here....leave a comment or two if you want. I know the girls would appreciate the input.

stretched
I'm
late today. I've been here there and everywhere this morning and on the
telephone searching for my missing threads. That problem is hopefully
resolved now. Tomorrow I stalk the postman. Yesterdays work is now
removed from the damp stretching board. I love the contrast of these two
pieces and to show you that better I have made a little video. Can't
stop long today...places to go, people to see.

stretching
I
have two very different pieces of work on my damp stretching board
today. One is my festooned/veil/holey/lace/white thingy the other
a piece that will be of interest to those of you planning on joining me
for 'embroider, embellish, create' at
the beginning of November. I am sure some of you must be thinking why
on earth has she started a white wrapping cloth when Ledgers is going on
and the veil thingy isn't finished. Well....I have a problem. My veil
piece is worked exclusively in coton a broder. I ordered more as I was
running low........two weeks ago! It hasn't arrived so basically I have
no thread, an embroiderer with no thread. I do have lots of perle but
that has a sheen, the broder is matt, I am loathe to mix thread at this
stage so I began a white piece with perle just to keep the fingers
working. Occasionally I draw, I will draw later today to keep my ledger
going whilst leaving numerous answer phone messages on the thread
suppliers number.

my ledger
Just
a brief glimpse inside my ledger today. As you can see I have had the
pencils and paints out along with the coloured thread....sometimes I do
use colour although it always feels weird. Yesterday was spent
socialising so very little has been accomplished creatively since I was
last here. Today will be laundry....it breeds in my basket. Either that
or the neighbours sneak in whilst I am asleep and leave theirs.
Can I do a little begging now? and a lot of pretty please grovelling? If you have me in your link list please can you amend it to direct people here and not my old blog. I think my stats are being affected in a negative way and you know how obsessed I am about stats. A zillion thank yous and a lot of kisses for doing that xxxxxxx

creating and painting
This
morning I have been ''perusing' my ledger....some of which is hidden as
the girls haven't seen it yet. I am actually finding it quite relaxing
picking this book up and playing for a little while each day. It's like
being back at school! Mind you....I didn't like it there much....this is
different, I like this. I have also been putting together more cloth
for the veil/festooned/holey/lace piece, just pinned for the moment.
This made me smile yesterday...really. Uttely charming? My Northern English ''common'' voice,
(Synonyms: | ordinary - vulgar - usual - general - coarse - public) |
I am so grateful...utterly charming...I will live off that compliment for years, thank you so much!
I won't be here tomorrow and I can see you all jumping for joy now. I will be spending time with my little brother who is coming all the way from Sweden to see me....

different
I made a very short video this morning to illustrate progress on my white cloth. My concern? that you would think I was posting the same picture over and over again so please humour me...it's only just over one minute long.
I had worried that I wouldn't have time to give this piece any attention for a while but I am pleased to say that I got a couple of hours embroidery completed on it last night. Fingers are crossed here that I am able to do that most days.

white on blue
These
images were taken a few days ago...pre my ''under the weather'' period.
This particular background was hanging around waiting for use in the
video I made for you yesterday and I thought the white cloth worked
really well laid over the blue. In case you don't recognise it this is
my veil/festooned cloth with another section joined. In truth nothing
much has happened with this piece since then. I fear it may be little
while before I get back to this one. I am working hard getting ready
for tomorrow and Ledgers. I am all set, I just hope the girls have sharpened their pencils....
In other news...can I please have postal addresses for the following four lucky people who have each won a stick of Blackpool Rock.

fabric paints
Since I was last here I have been battling man flu and had a very unproductive weekend spent sniffling and feeling sorry for myself. I am still a little ''out of sorts'' today but have had enough of my sick bed....life goes on and I have Ledgers to prepare for. We start on Wednesday so you still have time to sign up if you want to join us......there is more information here . I promised you a ''doodling'', ''drawing'' video but I'm afraid I have had to let you down for now...fabric painting is all I have managed. Actually I have been hankering after painting some cloth for a while now so it turned out well for me although I'm not finished. More paint needs to be added to this and then I have plans which I speak about in the video. You will have to excuse me now....I need to go blow my nose.
p.s. the video is germ free.

nine down six to go....
I know, I know, I'm late. I am feeling sorry for myself...sneezy, runny nose, headache...it must be MAN FLU as it is so bad. I battled the weekly supermarket challenge this morning decidedly not in the mood, but I did it...I'm such a martyr. Now I am home, surrounded by tissues and peppermint tea. Occasionally stamping my feet tantrum form and generally behaving like a spoilt brat. Note to self...pull yourself together and grow up.
Nine of these tiny adornments are now completely finished and another six are stitting on my damp stretching board waiting for me to stop sneezing and give them some attention. That means five for me, five for gift recipient number one and five for gift recipient number two. Not much else is happening though due to my current state of permanent sulk. I do want to launder some cloth, press some lace, maybe practice painting before I show you my painting practice. Did you follow that? In essence...before I practice my painting on video, in front of you...I want to practice...oh dear, now I'm confused.
I have answered ALL the comments from the last couple of days in the comment sections....I quite like doing that......so have a look if you want to know what I said. I have a hugely crammed inbox too and I am going to come blog visiting over the weekend...and yes, I am bringing my germs with me.
09/20/2012
it's evolving beautifully......
I promised you a video today and it's here. Around 4 minutes long so hopefully not long enough to send you to sleep!! As I said before I am very conscious that you may get sick of seeing this cloth so it has a different background today. This is a piece of work I created for one of my modules at uni. It's a design for fabric, in repeat. I don't actually like it that much in so far as I wouldn't want fabric like this. What I do like is the surface, the process that was used in its creation. So although it doesn't appeal to me aesthetically, its a valuable reference and one I am happy still to have.
Back to the video......I hope you find it worthwhile and that it gives you a more realistic sense of this piece.

gifts....
I
am making gifts. Gifts for two people who shall remain nameless. These
are not finished and there are others waiting to be embroidered, a
little lace to be placed behind windows, a few bullion knots to be added
and then of course they will need to be damp stretched. I am hopeful
they will be finished some time tomorrow.
The photographs were taken on an old sketchbook page...no surprise that I am looking at old sketchbooks seeing as how Ledgers starts next week. There are only a couple of places left now so if you have been contemplating you can pop over here and read more.
If you have already signed up to Ledgers then you should have received an e mail today regarding the class blog, passwords etc. If you haven't received that then please get in touch asap.....
Promises were made by me yesterday, remember? about videos? never fear. I haven't forgotten I just haven't had much time today. The plan is for the first video to be on here tomorrow....

ever present
Despite yesterdays colourful cloth white remains. I am still working on my festooned cloth/veil which I started during the extending embellishment class that has just ended. Today there are new bumpy bits....circles of lace embellished with bullion knots and buttonhole edging. There is still a lot of work to do on this, it grows only slowly. I haven't made a final decision yet on whether this will be backed and if it is to be backed what I will use for that. I am drawn to silk net....but that could be cost prohibitive.
This morning I have been putting the final touches to our class blog for Ledgers which starts next week. Obviously I am going to be working on paper a lot in the coming weeks but I also aim to continue with this piece. If you are signed up for Ledgers then you should get mail from me tomorrow. Later this week I will create a short video about this veil/cloth/white piece in order that you see it more clearly, the lightness and fragility of it. Then...if I am organised enough..(knowing me I would advise not holding your breath!) I hope to show you a short, short video of me practicing drawing and such like. Believe me...I need practice.
Finally...there is a little confusion for non British people as to what Blackpool Rock is. Sorry about that...I should have known that not everyone in the world has eaten their way through tons of the stuff!! To clarify...click here.

background.....
I wanted to take a picture on something other than a white board or my scruffy table. I actually have another table, a nicer table. That one was in yesterdays picture so maybe in the future. Today though I have laid the cloth on other cloth, embellished cloth, my toe wrap, throw, mini blanket. The contrast is quite appealing I think. The main focus today, the purpose of the cloth back drop is to highlight the added strip of lace hexagons to an edge. They are waiting for another section to be completed and attached.
Now then....who wants a stick of Blackpool rock? I bought you some...I spoil you. I will pick four people at randonm later this week so just say hello! Go on...you know you want to.

a corner.....
What a day...I'm supposed to be in a hurry...I have somewhere to be. I am going here.
I haven't been there for 12 years minimum. My son went to London this
morning to spend the weekend with his sister so when the kids away the
adults play!! There will be candy floss, bingo and donuts. The excitement is mounting...honestly. And yes...my definition obsession continues, can't help myself.
bin·go
(bng

)
I do have quite a bit to say though...hope you don't fall asleep. First the work. I added yesterdays piece to a corner. I am quite pleased with the pictures despite the scruffy table back drop. They show the said corner off really well. There are also dangly things which don't really dangle but I preferred them this way. Next week there will be a video about this piece as in all honesty I do think you get a better sense of it that way.
Second, comments. I try and reply to every comment I get and manage to keep up quite well even if it does take me a while sometimes. It's also a good way for me to have a poke around your blogs and see what you have been up to. But...and isn't there always a but? I do have times, not often but I do when I get a little overwhelmed with mail. One of the advantages of Typepad is that I can reply to comments in the comments section. So my plan? This morning I have replied to every comment I got yesterday in the comment section of yesterdays post. I don't intend to only ever do it that way, I will...... I promise .......get round everyone's blogs at least once a week. Hand on heart I will. Aside from the fact that I think it is only polite I am very nosey and don't like to miss anything, proper curtain twitcher I am and visiting other blogs is a true pleasure. So if you ask a specific question you could check here first to see if I have answered.
Finally.....yes I promise I'm going soon......this week the postman has been extra kind to me. I am so lucky. Don't know why....but I am also very grateful. I received some beautiful lace from Barbara and then out of the blue this morning a loud banging on the door and the biggest surprise I've had for a long time...a delicious fruit cake from Henrietta. I have no words.......
OK...I'm off to Blackpool. Who wants a stick of rock?

the next piece.....
Don't faint...second post of the day. Why? Well I can't just leave you with an old video can I, that wouldn't do at all. This is the latest damp stretched piece for my festooned veil/cloth. I am going to attach it tonight and enhance it with dangly things. This piece has an abundance of bullion knots, mirrors and open areas. My cloth continues to grow.....slowly....I'm in no hurry.
