For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

''the use of traditional often time consuming process alludes to the devotion of a mother''. c K. A. Ruane 2007

raspberry silk and pink gingham

Well I said I would have to see if this combination was going to work and here we are, tried and failed a couple of times but I think I am getting there. It definitely didn't work with larger, solid blocks of the raspberry dupion but hopefully this compromise looks good to you. Really I wanted a massive piece, constructed purely of hexagons embellished with applique and embroidery without anything else. I would probably have loved that but don't really expect anyone else to so out came the white silk, a little cutwork and a match up of pieces that will come together in the end. In my head I can see this finished, you however will have to wait a little longer. There is more piecing to be done, a little putting together and then edges, yes we need fancy edges.

Tomorrow is party time, a busy weekend ahead without much time for stitching. I hope whatever your plans are that you have an enchanting weekend.
( my new favourite word..........'' enchanting''. Maybe I should have a word for the week, now there's a thought!!)
