It was a plan.....

 

Yes, more patchwork, more Grandmothers flower garden.

If you look at the first image there is quite a large piece of patchworked hexagons, it looks a little bit like Australia to me!

It's at the top of that image. 

A little while ago...OK.....quite  along time ago I had a plan for a single bed size patchwork coverlet.

That's as far as I got.

What can I say, distractions, daunted.....

But, last night, looking at my recently pieced Grandmothers flower garden patchwork it occurred to me that I could add them to the Australia piece.

Nothing would match.

It would be a mishmash of all sorts.

What do you reckon?

(I'm sure you know what mishmash means but I do love a definition)

Thi spiece popped up in my Facebook memories today and I'm so pleased it did.

It has provided more inspiration for my current design work especially the gimp and the buttons but also the composition, the placement of paper alongside embroidery.

Monday

 

Fifteen two inch quares marked out, each one has a scrap of paper and a scrap of fabric attached.

Next they will be cut out and stitch added before they form the next part of this collection. 

Also here, little bits that might inspire this work going forward.

Tiny cut out thread cards, fabric scraps, torn paper pieces, beads, sequins.

I mentioned in this post how the joy with these comes from the 'doing'. 

That hasn't changed but it's also true that whilst you spend time on these exercises you are absorbing the details. 

What goes with what, which piece compliments another, which colours work and it's also hoped that they inspire, allow you to take this exercise further. 

These pieces will form part of the collection below.

 

once upon a time.....

Yes it's true.....once upon a time I dyed and printed cloth. The design I developed too, all part of a box ticking exercise and now I'm sharing it with you.

bumpy things......

The area of 'bumpy things' is finished and damp stretched now....I do like it a lot and it's great to run your hands over. So that section will be grubby first then...I have also embellished a patterned section with hand stitch, the area that has red dotty things on it. Lots of white stitches on there, knots and stuff. This piece is heavily textured. I didn't plan it that way but I know I will have enormous fun fiddling with this when it's finished. 

For the past week my dining room /computer room / work room has resembled a bomb site. This morning I shook myself down and faced my responsibilities. It is now gloriously neat, tidy, clean and I would even go so far as to say it's positively pristine! I put the ironing board away and everything!! Can you tell I'm proud?

This morning was the first day of class, no detentions yet but I can already pick out the ones who are going to be trouble!! Only kidding....SK.....you know who you are!! Honestly though, what a gorgeous bunch of girls we have gathered over there...reminder to self...don't let them down. 

I will be posting links on here to their blogs when they have posted work so you can see what we are up to. The work I create for that will also be shown on here. In truth I am creating exactly what I always create. Same motivation, same methods, same process but over there they are getting me too. The real me. A photograph, video, talking, (lots of me talking actually, babbling away inanely, very broad Northern English accent, making no sense at all I am sure)

So there you have it, a day in the life...with cleaning and housework....make the most of the latter, it won't last!
