For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

Extending pattern

More stitch has been added to the pieces from this post.

Three of them have added cloth snippets with a tiny bead and a single sequin attaching each piece of cloth.

There are plans for the other three.

The pages in the little notebook have stitched paper embellishing each page.

I hope to extend the embellishment on those pages too.

I get a lot of pleasure from these simple design explorations.

It doesn't matter to me if they never evolve into an embroidered piece of work.

For me, the joy is in the doing.

What lovely bits. "The pleasure is in the doing" - something for me to remember when I feel overwhelmed with what is not getting finished in my sewing space.

Pleasure in the doing is something that comes up a lot here. People don't seem to understand why I am so willing to give my creations away and I often tell them that exact thing and that once a project is completed I really am done with it.
