embellish....

What to do with this cotton lawn??? It was actually quite tricky. A busy all over pattern sometimes is enough on it's own but as this is for toe wrap two I thought it deserved a little titivating...

It may seem a little too much? A little over fussy? My thoughts are that once it's joined with the other sections and part of the ''whole'' it will hardly be noticeable.

I took some small scraps of lace and created a ''half'' edge along one seam, other bits were pleated around applique circles to create these very opulent little motifs, finish it all with french knots and hey presto! A little like a recipe for cooking don't you think......

on the computer front I have started composing my guest post for next saturday, the pictures are done and saved in draft so the hardest part is over, the rest just requires babble from me which as you know I am very good at, inane rambling....the secret project, well almost done...one more tiny thing to do that I am getting on to right after this so wish me luck!

it's that fine cotton lawn again...

Told you I loved it, love it. love it, love it...I have used it to finish the first piece of number two...only another (don't know how many) to go! You may have noticed an absence of rouleau loops in this one. That's because the fabrics I am using for this are all smallish pieces, not enough to allow me to cut bias strips. I am going to have to do something about that...thinking cap on..never fear, they will appear in some form when I join the pieces together. In the meantime there are always prairie points...they don't eat up as much cloth so they are on the list to do next.

Thanks for all the reaction to yesterdays post. I have to say that my toes were very toasty this morning whilst I was having my first coffee of the day...last night too as I was stitching. There it was, laid across my feet on the sofa. I always sit with my feet up at the side of me, plays havoc with the knees but hey, it's worth it for the adornment.

news of a wedding piece....

No, it's not for them. You know, the people who are getting married on April 29th, my little girls birthday. They couldn't afford me! This is for a lovely lady whom I shall only refer to as ''A'' because we don't want to give anything away do we. I am reliably informed that the bride doesn't know I exist which is a good thing. It means I can work on her cloth and show you without spoiling the suprise. A very unusual yet good thing happened in relation to this piece, the wedding piece. ''A'' and I were communicating by e-mail over a period of a couple of days to try and sort out the finer details. She then asked could she ring me instead, much quicker than e-mailing back and forth. So we talked on the phone and you know what, it was great, got things sorted in the blink of an eye. Now I know why they invented telephones and I also think maybe e-mail isn' the way forward after all. Anyway, I haven't even started the piece yet so I should really tell you what todays offering is... It's for my feet, yes Janice, my feet!!

They are very nice feet really they are but to be precise, this white cloth is for my throw which as you know will most likely be used to warm my feet when I first drag my bones out of bed in the morning. My favourite fine cotton lawn is making another appearance here, applique this time. Can you tell how much I love this fabric??? Now I am thinking I should make another list because I have a few things to do don't I. I need to make more gingham hexagons, I need to add these pieces to my throw, I need to give some kind of conscious nod in the direction of my special hook and eye pieces and I need to start the wedding cloth. My family are already looking hungry in anticipation of me doing even less on the ''mother'' and ''wife'' front than usual, bless them, how do they survive....

monday into tuesday...

The little white panel with the fine cotton lawn peep holes was finished last night. It's good to get stuff finished just before bedtime, it can be damp stretching whilst you snooze. This morning has been spent trying to get decent photos and then pinning the piece to the larger cloth.

I'm not sure how much bigger I am going to make this. I mean... it could go on forever. I could be in my old folks rest home before we get to the backing stage at this rate. There are still a couple of ''filling'' pieces to be made and then I might call it a day. Will keep you posted on that one. As it's for me it doesn't matter how big it is does it, it is after all just going to be something for my feet in the morning when I first get up and am having my ''return me to human form'' coffee. Another consideration...are you sick of seeing it? I know I post about different sections yet when I show them added to the whole thing you are seeing it all over again. I can imagine you all thinking, ''pesky throw, sick of it, same old same old, yawn , yawn''. The next big decision, what do I back it with? Pretty gingham? or do I raid my Marimekko stash and have a very precious reverse? Oh dear, raiding my Marimekko stash would be painful. I have lots of it but I like having lots of it, knowing it's there. I will ruminate on that one....

as for ''jacketgate''...haven't seen a sight of it on the street yet today. Mine is still on its hanger, reminding me of her next door......

in love with my needle...

Yesterday evening was lovely. Sitting with my son watching a very far fetched yet entertaining film, punctuated by cries of  ''as if!!'' ''never, just wouldn't happen!!'' and sitting, feet up getting reacquainted with my needle. Have I told you how much I love this fine cotton lawn which I bought at the Knitting and Stitching show? Oh, I have? Sorry about that but I'm telling you again. As I made tiny puffs with it for the throw I decided to use it on another section. I am getting to the stage now where pieces for my throw need to be properly measured, using a ruler and everything!! No more randon bits thrown together on a whim, very precise and accurate is going on here now. Are you impressed? Well this lovely little piece, approximately 6 x 7 inches to be....yes precise!! is made up of a little printed cotton, some hankerchief corners and the beautiful fine cotton lawn you may have heard me mention....

There is still work to be done on it, lots and lots of french knots for one thing, as for the rest, I haven't decided yet.

Now you won't be suprised to hear that I can't put a page on here for my sketchbook. Being a dimwit and everything I really don't know how to do it. I have looked, perused, read, investigated, not a chance. So I think I will have to link to a section, a collection, on flickr. The gobbledegook at the top of the page remains too, like you hadn't noticed. Someone offered to remove that for me, said it was a piece of cake. Guess what? I came out in a cold sweat and was terrified of losing my blog again so I declined. Call me a wuss, I don't care, sticks and stones and all that. Perhaps I can start a trend....you too can have a blog like mine, just give me the nod and I will mess yours up too. Call me anything you like but I'm definitely not selfish...

I have been out this morning, yes, out! I got vouchers for christmas (off the afformentioned son) so I went to spend them. I had seen a lovely jacket that I wanted last week but didn't buy it immediately and when I got home I saw that my nieghbour had beaten me to it, strolling down the road she was in my jacket!! It kind of put me off so I decided aginst getting it, I mean what if we both went to the shop at the same time?? Anyhow, I'm afraid I couldn't resist. I tried avoiding it, looking the other way and everything but it kept calling, so now my little street has the same jacket twice! Never fear, I have a plan..... my neighbour works 9-5, so I wear mine in the day, she can have the night shift! and don't forget, I hardly ever go out so mine will last a lot longer than hers....

Back to front images today, kind of. The first picture is how the second, third etc picture looks now. I put this piece together to fill and edge where one piece of the throw doesn't meet another piece. I don't know if I should really tell you that though. It makes it even more obvious that I don't know what I'm doing, or that I am so disorganised I don't know which piece fits where! Me thinks this will happen again. It doesn't matter though, not to me anyway because I love this little edge a lot. So here it is pinned together ready to go....

These little balls are so pretty. I bought this fabric (a fine cotton lawn) at the show in Harrogate, a fat quarter, but I am so tempted to get on their website and order some more. I can resist anything but temptation so it's a definite I think!! This is quire narrow, around 3 inches and 12 inches long. I don't think I will add it to the throw yet, I want to keep it seperate for a while so that I can constantly touch it, look at it and let it feed more edges.

Tomorrow I venture north playing santa. The weather seems as if it has turned, it is much milder today, hopefully it will be a trouble free journey. Most of my gifts are wrapped and ready to go, just one or two left to do. I have nearly finished another colourful, gingham section for the throw and hope to be able to show you that soon. There are also design sheets on my mind, an opportunity on my mind, I am quite excited by that.....
