For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

''the use of traditional often time consuming process alludes to the devotion of a mother''. c K. A. Ruane 2007

blame the weather....

Sorry!! honestly I really am...it's the rain, the wind, the cloud. It is far too gloomy to unveil my toe wrap. The weatherman tells me tomorrow may?? be better, let's hope so. It is ready, it is finished, I had the pleasure of it warming my toes this very morning, wonderful!!! I love it so much. To keep you going I will show you progress on toe wrap two instead...there are three pieces of this tacked together, some embellished areas, some as yet untouched. The top picture shows the ''newest'' embroidery done last night until the early hours. That's my lovely bird fabric cut up and appliqued.
This isn't necessarily how it will look, where the pieces will be placed when it's finished. There are a lot of sections yet to be made. This picture just illustrates how they all go together at the moment. and I'm still not sure about that red....
there's a new page at the top......do you like?

loving white....

Yep, sorry, still addicted to the white stuff. Not snow though, I am sitting here with everything crossed that we don't suffer the same as other parts of the country. I love snow, really love it it's so pretty but it's not compatible with stress free driving or even stress free walking. Every time I walk in snow I do some amazing double pirouettes, ones that would put Olympic gymnasts to shame and I always expect someone to pop out from behind the bushes with a score card....5.9 for gold!! So given the choice I will leave it thank you. We had a little flurry earlier but I promptly gave it the ''stare of death'' and off it popped. Good.
Weather report over now and on to embroidery. Another white one finished and the love of white remains undiminished. Next to me I have a stack of linen, lace, trims and edges waiting to be ironed and folded. Oh folding, love that too.

This one has now joined the others here and if it stays there I don't mind...I get to look at it for longer! I feel as if I have created a lot this weeknd, probably because my car is still sick, (remedied today fingers crossed). There has been more embroidery on gingham, stretching as we speak and this has also been given a little more attention. I did take a photo of the picture I bought myself at the show but being dim and all that I forgot to upload it! Hopefully next time...

the last one

All three pieces are finished and I am delighted to say that Debi loves them. I think they will become part of something else she is making, a small addition to a larger piece so no doubt they won't look like this when that piece is finished. Hopefully Debi will get lots of pleasure working with these just as I did making them. I have to say that I am not very happy with the quality of my photos at the moment, it's always so dark and dull here that they seem to lack that little bit of extra light. I try to lighten them on my p.c. software but you can't really beat the real thing, sunshine. I am certain that these would look miles better if I lived in the Sahara or somewhere! Mind you, the work would look better but I'm not sure about me! and where would I plug my computer? Oh well, need a different plan then. The past couple of days seem to have been taken up with online stuff. Thanks to all you wonderful people I have been changing things, adding things, reading things, the followers tab has been added and then removed, added again and it's removed again. I don't know why but I can't seem to let my head accept that it fits on here so I am keeping it off for now. I am now adding labels to my posts, I believe that helps although it took me an age to figure out how to do it and now I know I realise that it's not exactly rocket science but that shows you how rubbish I am with technology. I must say though that I love the little pattern of words I now have top left especially the bold ones, now that I like a lot. Now I have to go and get these little things ready for their journey, so have a lovely friday and if you aren't sick of me yet check out these rather nice words about my work, thankyou Mary Anne. x
p.s. these pieces are approximately 8 x 3 inches.....sorry Dolores
