For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

''the use of traditional often time consuming process alludes to the devotion of a mother''. c K. A. Ruane 2007

extending....

Extending my sketchbook page with needle weaving, cutwork, French knots and thumbnails whilst thinking all the time, trying to collate something in my head that is hiding. Never mind, I will continue to stitch and extend.
We are doing cutwork in class this week so it was inevitable that I would use it here. It's on my mind so I go with what's on my mind.
It's quite early for me to be posting, my day is a little upside down. Later I have a video to make, cloth to select, embroidery to plan, photographs to take. Last night I made love hearts with lace. I will show you those soon.

extending

My current piece is being extended, added to, embroidered, French Knots, Bullion knots, a mass of hand stitch. It's taking shape, I love it, the next bit is scary. More of that when it happens in case I chicken out...
Sadly I must put this away for a couple of days as there are other things to be done...you can have a look at one of those tomorrow....
