For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

Embroidery hoops

Embroidery hoops.....full of embroidery!

These embroidered pieces are snapshots of a long running project, a cloth book of embroidered samples.

I spoke about this a lot on my Typepad blog but alas, all referenvce to that is now gone.

I copied and pasted that blog here but the images have now vanished as they were hosted by the Typepad server which is no more.

Once again, thanks Typepad.

Thankfully I always keep my images.

I have posted some below which will hopefully give you a good overview of the project.

I think I am currently on twelve pages.

My intention was to stop at eleven but hey ho.....I just can't stop.

Each embroidered white square is edged with seventy two one inch patchwork pieces.

Each page is backed with an embroidered overlay tied with ribbon.

I hope you enjoy these images.
