For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

Doodling on gingham

Doodling on gingham with needle and thread.

Do you like gingham?

Gingham holds memories for me, childhood, sewing class in school, (which I hated by the way...who knew)

If you need a little mindless embroidery requiring no prep then gingham is your friend.

Your stitch placement is marked out for you, your spacing is marked out for you....

Like I said,  gingham is your friend.

I had two gingham dresses when I was a kid, both gifted to me by my grandparents for my birthday. My grandfather insisted I would like the blue one and my grandmother liked the pink. Grandpa was right - I hated pink (still do) and never wore it, but wore the blue one to death.
