For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

''the use of traditional often time consuming process alludes to the devotion of a mother''. c K. A. Ruane 2007

just for you....

Hi!! I am so happy today, in such a good mood. That's because I had the best weekend ever. Both my kids at home, a delightful christening, a beautiful baby. I listed my books, I was amazed at all the brilliant comments I got over on my guest post. I'm feeling a bit spoilt truth be told...So, this morning, agonising over what to post because I have done zero stitching at all since thursday!! Yes, thursday...I came up with an idea to spread the love. Don't worry, I haven't gone all gooey all of a sudden, I will be back to my miserable self in no time at all but if I was you I would enjoy it while it lasts!!! Anyway....babbling again...do you know this is my 561st post!!! I didn't celebrate number 500, very remiss of me, so in an effort to compensate and fill todays blank page I thought I would give something away..
I put this little design sheet/ sketchbook page together. A tiny scrap of vintage embroidery, some wrapped thread to colour match the cloth, a little stitched paper, a composition.

Whoever wins this can either leave it as it is, mounted on high quality watercolour paper, they could use it as an additional page in their own sketchbook or it would be usefull as a scrap of old rubbish to write your shopping list on... a multi tasking mini design sheet!! All you have to do is leave a comment, simple as that. AND...now don't pass out or faint or anything, tomorrow I am giving something else away!!
Back to yesterday and the weekend and the christening and all that. Those of you who were around last night will have seen that I posted pics from the christening, scroll down and you will get a look at the three people who light up every day for me...
that's enough gooey stuff for at least a year, back to misery tomorrow...see you then...

I like the new pieces for today (I'm getting going with my tea and my "fun" blogs before studying for a midterm) and I don't know how to sign up for the gifts you are offering - I can see putting THEM in my sketchbook. I did try once to leave a comment for you directly on your blog but it never came thru, so I'm not getting it right. BETSY

So glad you had a good weekend, your positively radiating happiness - you never know it may last a bit longer :o).

You have given me an idea for a hallway curtain, to keep the draughts at bay. Lots of interesting bits of fabric and stitching it all together but I think I will get out the sewing machine or it might be next year before it gets done, or maybe the year after that.
