For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

world thread shortage?

Maybe not a world thread shortage then, a Karen thread shortage though. These are my commisssioned pieces, almost there maybe another 30 minutes give or take but no, maybe another metre of thread! Sadly I ran out at the crucial moment, a sign of my non functioning disorganised brain. Threads are now on order and fingers crossed should be here in the morning. I wanted to have this put to bed so to speak. Not because it's a chore, it's just that I have realised how much I want to do for Sparkle. The swaddling band......... another problem. I don't know if I should be telling you this but I have ran out of that thread too. Now if that doesn't prove my incompetence and drive away any custom I might have had I don't know what will. That thread is also on order, delivery date not yet known so I would be grateful for a mass crossing of fingers, thankyou.

The thread shortage has had a positive side to it though, I am making progress with the sparkle cloth and should have the main part finished soon. Now I have such a busy non embroidery couple of weeks coming up I am going to be meeting myself coming back. Tommorrow we have visitors from afar, well Birmingham, but it's still far! Next week we have workmen in for 3 days and the week after I am off to London to see my little girl. I am really hoping embroidery doesn't suffer but add up the minutes and it doesn't work. Add to that the day job and living in a cave becomes more enticing by the minute. I know.......I can post about buffet's for guests, rubble, dust and train journeys.....it's a plan! Have a great weekend, you know I can't stay away! See you sunday!

Too bad about the thread but I guess it's a sign. Of what though? Slow down? I love the green and purple.

I'm in agreement with the others, those colours look lovely. Fingers crossed on the thread front.

Curious to know where you source your threads, Karen. I lack a good local supplier too. Have a fun next week with your little girl.

Like everyone else, I love that colour combination. I urgently needed some specific thread the other day and had to order online. Since the P&P was double the cost of the skein of thread I added in a few extra skeins that I didn't really need. of course - the one I needed was out of stock and the 'extra' ones I ordered were all that came...! Grrr. Fingers crossed that yours arrive quickly.
