There have been a couple of other tiny things made for the makey do this week that I will share at the weekend. I had to take a break from the goldwork to give my brain a rest but it's back on that tommorrow with plans to start another doll tonight. Busy is the prevailing word around here at the moment but I hope you have all tidied up because now I'm coming to visit!
For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

Goldwork? Yes, but in silver.
Well, what do you think? I know it's not gold but I can assure you that it qualifies as goldwork. Same techniques, same kid leather, same purl, only silver. I'm not really a gold person and I think the silver looks much better with these colours. I am getting so much pleasure from this, and excitement. It really is a massive challenge for me. This work involves starting from scratch with a proper brief, research and colour etc totally out of my hands and I had forgotten how much fun it could be, if a little stressful. I have a tight deadline to get this done but I hope to make it with maybe a day to spare.Unfortunately I can't say much else at the moment, infact if I told you any more I would have to kill you so I'd best leave it there. Sorry to keep you hanging but you will be the first to know as soon as I am able.

The work looks exquisite - can't wait to see the finished thing and find out more about it. I agree the silver works beautifully with the colours. It has a wonderful blending tone.
Don't work too hard.

HI Karen- Just wanted to let you know that I picked one of your pieces to go with the Etsy article about me being an old-timer. It's over here:

Well, here I am Karen, no longer lurking... This is so beautiful (as ever!) The silver shapes make me think of sea shells. Looking forward to seeing what the finished article turns out to be!
Janice.
PS Don't look too closely if you come visiting over here - all the electrical appliances are taking unofficial strike action.
I'm more of a gold girl myself, but maybe I should try and do more in silver? The effect of the colours you've used is beautiful and so effective.
