For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

Embroidered patchwork

Some of my embroidered petals have now been used for a patchwork flower.

This is the third finished page for my little silk book.

I have five more to complete and then I need to decide how I will embellish the reverse of each page.

At the moment I am completely devoid of ideas!

Beautiful work Karen. I'm sure the reverse will speak to you as you finish the other pages. What popped into my mind was perhaps some simple stitch outlines of the shapes of those flowers to echo the front. But you will come up with something gorgeous.. you always do.
