For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

Pieces of patchwork and a hoop of embroidery.

Patchwork pieces, some for my stash and some for my current project.

The embroidery hoop is full of hand embroidery which will be cut out and used in more patchwork.

You might be able to see some embroidered pieces in the large floral patchwork pieces.

That is the plan for the pieces in this hoop.

How lovely. Don't forget, my long standing offer to become the guardian and keeper of the Ruane Towers embroidery collection, still stands. Very happy to extend it to the stash 😉😂
