For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

Lace cloth and hand painted embroidered silk.

 



These embroidered silk pieces are only pinned at the moment.

They will be fixed to the lace cloth base with lots of white French knots and bullion knots.

I'm excited to see how these pieces come together, to see if I can add the colour to the very white base in a way that is seamless, as if they have always lived there.

I always love to look at your blog and see lace cloth - such a beautiful surface to work on. There is no doubt in my mind you'll make them look as they were always part of the cloth - they look amazing just perched on it.

I really need to get out my cheesecloth and play with making some more 'froth'. Might be able to use some on my next project.
