For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

Hand painted fabric and patchwork.

My fabric painted pieces are now evolving into a wrapping cloth.

(girls in class, I made you a short video explaining this)

Sections of white cloth will be added to fabric painted pieces after they have been embroidered and patchwork added to the white space.

Seams will be embellished with running stitch, French knots and bullion knots.

It's growing quite quickly but next up I need to embroider another painted piece.

It's looking beautiful Karen... I love the direction you chose to go with this piece. It's such a lovely combination of stitching, patchwork and painted designs.

I love the tactile nature of those flowers. Makes me want to reach out and touch (with clean hands of course!)
