For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

Embroidery on paper.

If you are new here you may not know about my love of stitching on paper.

Many papers accept hand embroidery but the most receptive is the paper you see here that I work on a little using my sewing machine to alter the surface.

The last image shows a little of that 'in progress'.

If you are not new here you will have seen this before.

This post is another exercise in retrieving lost reference to years of work.

It's also made me hanker to get my sewing machine and papers out.

That will go on the very long list of things I'm desperate to do.

Oh that desperation list, I know it well! Never, ever, are there enough hours in the day to do all I dream about.
