For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

Hand embroidered cloth.

Some of you may remember this piece from my old blog.

It's a hand embroidered panel of dotted swiss.

This particular fabric is very light, delicate and beautiful to stitch into.

I bought it last year in Barcelona and am wishing I'd got more.

I'm certain I'm not the only person that happens to.

There's a lovely mix of hand embroidery stitches and applique on this surface.

Web stitches, French knots, bullion knots and pistil stitch, (or French knots on stalks!)

In the image below, the embroidered panel has been lined, (pinned anyway) before it's

folded in order to create a little pouch for some of my embroidery bits and pieces.
