For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

complimentary

Yesterday afternoon I made lace cloth, this piece and more. I thought it might be a good idea to have a little bit of cohesion going on....( just generally) so I am picking pattern out of finished pieces and making lace cloth to compliment, to live alongside pockets and pillows and things. I won't be building ''collections'' as such because I don't have time but somewhere down the line there may be a couple of buttons thrown into this new desire for cohesion too. - See more at: http://karenannruane.typepad.com/karen_ruane/#sthash.APH4u2ma.dpuf
