For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

''the use of traditional often time consuming process alludes to the devotion of a mother''. c K. A. Ruane 2007

sketch and stitch....

Just playing with a little sample....seeing how it looks next to a sketchbook page. We have such such bright sunshine here that paper, pages seem appropriate. They are stark, clear, white.....

I've got a card of those buttons by the way, too beautiful to use.

I'm so inspired to see someone take the time to embroider these days. Your work is a treasure. I too am a surface designer but I use dye and printing to embellish my textiles. Sometimes I do a little bit of embroidery and find it so relaxing. So nice to have found you via Fiber Art Now on Facebook.

I agree, the clear light seems most appropriate!

I can't help but think of those little mint candies when I see this stitching. I don't like mints, but I sure do like your stitches!!
