Wow! Thanks for the reaction to my sugary post yesterday.....might be more of that tomorrow...meantime I have been home to white. White padded applique, white bullion knots, white French knots, all damp stretched and glorious. I think the third picture down is my favourite, it sums this piece up really. This is the third section of my cloth. By my reckoning I need at least six so white will continue along with occasional (short lived) forays into other stuff. I am making this cloth with the girls in my current embroidery class. I never tire of white, if I ran 50 white classes and as a result accumulated 50 white cloths it wouldn't be a problem....it would be a bonus.
For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .
