For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

cover girl.....

I'm afraid secrecy is still required with some aspects of the pieces of work I am embellishing at the moment...I really can't let you see things that my girls haven't see yet...and today I am so happy that even though class doesn't start until Monday we already have a picture in our flickr group so please get over there and have a look at the one single image that means so much to me.
I am happy to tell you too that I can now share my exciting news!! The image below is of the cover of a new book that comes out in July of this year.....and the cover girl?? Me!! Yes that is my embroidery on the front, my cutwork, my toil...eat your heart out Playboy!! The book is by Acturus Publishing.....they asked for a number of my images, high res,  ages ago and to be honest I wouldn't have picked the one they are using, I feel there were better ones but hey...that's why I'm not a publisher I guess so not complaining here, my name will be in there...

Now I'm off to salivate over on flickr, drink some coffee and tip tap away on here with mail and stuff. Have  great weekend!!

How Wonderful!! A huge congratulations. It is a beautiful piece of work and shows so much variety in the stitches. Perhaps that's why they used it.
