For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

wedding favours....

Only four pictures for you today but never fear because I can assure you that you will be sick of these before I've finished! Wedding favours that started out as a request for 36 then jumped up to 41 and now stands at 50. They're for my cousin who is getting married on November 20th. When I was asked yesterday to increase the amount to 50 I said yes of course, swiftly followed by ''and I'm not answering the phone to you again before November 19th''.! In all seriousness though I really don't mind, family, don't you just love them.

As for the colour choice, I am reliably informed that it matches the bridesmaids dresses. I received a beatiful, if tiny, Pantone colour swatch all the way from New York if you please!! Very posh indeed! These will eventually become tiny cushions, silk dupion, hand embroidered in this colour matched silk thread with hand made labels showing the name of bride and groom along with the wedding date. I will of course show you when they are finished but as yet the labels are not ready so it will definitely be when I come back from my holidays. Two of the fifty will also be unique. They are for two special guests who must remain nameless but I have started those and may be able to show you some of that tomorrow.
In the meantime I am racking my brains trying to think of what I can make alongside these and then you won't have to look at the same thing every day for the next month!! Wish me luck....

Hello my dear, thanks for popping by to say hello, it's always lovely to hear from you.
Those favours are truly adorable! I don't envy you having so many to make but I'm sure that the guests and the happy couple will appreciate all the work.
I'm now wishing I knew how to do french knots without ending up with a huge tangle of thread.

Wow, what amazing favors. Those are very lucky guests! I know repetitive work like that can be hard but the group shots at the end will be worth it!

They are beautiful but I think it would drive me mad making 50 the same!

It drove me crazy just assembling 50 favor boxes for my son's wedding and I didn't have to stitch anything! White with a touch of yellow are my planned colors for my bedroom when I get around to revamping it. I'll have to keep this in mind.

Lucky cousin!

Our boys are both getting married next year - I don't suppose there's any chance you would...No??? Oh well, I tried.
Seriously - these are lovely! I hope the bride and groom realize just how blessed they are to have you in the family.

For the next month there will be no cleaning party, no trip to London, no lavish dinners, no piles of laundry and just a few hours of sleep. You need to WORK girl!!!!

Hope you still want to be an embroiderist after this month.

Good grief. They are gorgeous and I'm sure they'll be delighted but do you remember I told you once I nearly left a comment about you relishing the tedious? Well I think its time to say it. Only because I know you'll take it as a compliment.
