For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

serene and fragrant......

I remember once hearing a woman being described as serene and fragrant. It was a news bulletin and her (famous) husband had just been found guilty of perjury, the judge in his summing up was commenting on the fact that throughout she had remained the perfect wife, serene and fragrant. At the time I imagined how lovely it would be to have those words used to describe you, nobody ever has described me that way until today and I am doing it myself. The reason? Because that's how I feel. Quite unexpectedly calm has descended here. I think it's a realisation that I can only do what I can do and what will be will be. If I don't have enough pieces for Sparkle that will only become apparent because everything has sold, result. I then won't have anything to complain about will I? The lovely Jackie told me yesterday that I ''relish the tedious'', well I agree with her except relish isn't a strong enough word, try adore, love, revere...... So here are lots of images for you of the latest fragment, what do you think? I like to fold and bend as you know and in some of these pics I am being extremely brave because the back is visible, please don't judge me too harshly. I have also made brooches, only three so far but I hope to make more to add to the ones I stole from my shop. There is more news about the shop later and the beads in the bottom brooch look gold but they aren't, they are silver purl, blame the awful light.

My main focus at the moment is finishing the wrapping cloth I started for Sparkle. I am determined to have it ready before I go back to work on monday. Remember these that I was making for the edge? Well yesterday I measured and calculated and I reckon I need 62 of them. I had already made 10 and I think I am now up to about 50 so once they are finished it will be a case of putting it all together, backing it and hand finishing the edge. It will happen, I am determined.
Yesterday I closed the shop, maybe temporarily or maybe permanently I'm not quite sure yet. That has been a relief because I really wouldn't have time at the moment to package and post. For the past weeks my life has been consumed by BS and AS, before sparkle and after Sparkle. After Sparkle I am maybe going to try a new direction, a new outlet but no firm decisions have been made yet. I would however like to announce....drum roll....that from tonight I am going to take direct orders from here, so if there is anything you would like all it will take is an e-mail, just get in touch!
This is a long one today, more like a bulletin I think!! Do you live near Sparkle? Would you like a free ticket for the preview evening on friday 20th or a 2 for 1 ticket for the saturday or sunday? If you would just let me know and I will pop them in the post for you totally free, I will buy the stamps. I don't have hundreds of them but there are a few going spare.
Life is so much nicer when you are serene and fragrant, I recommend it. Last weekend my little girl came home for a few days, it was so amazing to have her here and we have had very exciting news about my son. His band has just signed a record deal. It is such an amazing opportunity for them I can't begin to describe the life it may bring him. It's early days yet and nothing is guaranteed but what a wonderful opportunity for them, I am very happy!
Now I have prairie points to make, a wrapping cloth to finish, brooches and buttons to plan and I may even get another fragment made, oh and I even had time to get my hair cut!
Take care x

I lurve the new fragment. I'm such a sucker for little touches of color.

In Death On The Nile, there is a part where everyone's cabin is searched. One woman's cabin is "immaculately neat" and "smelled faintly of lavender." When the police inspector is finished, he says, "nice woman." Sigh.

I wish I had reached that stage. I still have targets to meet.
I think I might be fragrant but its probably because I haven't had time to have a bath or do any washing.
Fragment is gorgeous.

Oohhhh, that fragment is simply beautiful. Thank you for showing the back - there's nothing to judge, it's just really nice to see how others put together their needlework, the techniques, etc. :)

The little bits of colour make this piece really glow.

The third picture from the top looks like a beautiful butterfly. You sound very nice being serene and fragrant! The serene part is easy for me, and I have a lovely lavender shower gel to make me fragrant, but DH will keep a distance then, or start sneezing! - I enjoyed reading your blog again after my absence and falling behind reading anything.

I agree-the fragment is just fabulous. I sometimes wonder if you shouldn't invent names for your white on white techniques-you know, like there are supposed to be umpteen words for snow if you live in northern countries.
Good luck with the serenely fragrant wrapping cloth.

Exquisite is the word that comes to mind. Well, after 'serene' and 'fragrant', of course. That fragment is delicious. BIG congrats to your son. Great news for him. I don't know if I live near Sparkle - you tell me! I think you're sensible to take all the extra stuff out of your shop, at least for Sparkle. And after that, well, we await with baited breath! Keep going - you're almost there!
Janice.

Just passed by. What a wonderful pieces did you create again. I love the idea that you take matters in your own hand. You work so hard. What kind of music does your son make? Did he already make a homemade clip with his music on youtube. There are lots of people who do that, therefore I was wondering.
Well I'll stop by later.

Have a great weekend.
