For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

Look.......I've been busy!

Just to prove that I don't sit on my backside watching daytime t.v. and eating cream cakes lots of pictures for you! I was going to save the second lot of these images for another post but then I could imagine you saying, ''5 measly pincushions that were half made anyway, not much work there'' But, as you can see the evidence is here...I have made the most of my time off work. The pincushions are stitched, stuffed and embellished. There will have to be more, many more and I am on it as we speak, let's hope there is a massive shortage of pincushions in London.

Then there is this, another fragment. Remember the lace hexagons I joined together well this is how they look now. I made more tiny embroidered patches and have added them to the lace. This isn't finished yet, (look closely and you can see the tacking around the edge). I have something else in mind to add but it's coming along.

I really want to say thanks for all the brilliant comments on my last piece. I am so flattered but have to admit that when I made that piece coral, sealife and similar were nowhere on my radar. I had visions of garment fragments, aged, lost in time, from a wedding gown or baptism robe perhaps, yikes, looks like I failed miserably there then. Still, that's the beauty of creativity, being in the eye of the beholder etc. interpret as you see etc.
I am now working hard trying to make progress with my Sparkle cloth. My trouble is I keep thinking of stuff to add to it, extra embellishment. The swaddling band? Well I honestly don't know if I will get that finished. It's probably do-able but at the expense of other things. So I am undecided which way to go with that. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have it ready, it speaks so much about ''me'' but I really do need to get on with bread and butter stuff so we shall see.
The house.........they've gone and I am just waiting for paint to dry, huge sigh of relief! I may have pics for you soon, have a great week. x

I thought I'd chosen which was my favourite from the first photo, but by the time I got to the last one, I don't know anymore. They're all beautiful.

Wow you are a busy girl! And the results are stunning!
If they don't have a lack of pincushions in London I would willingly take one here in the US.

I personally think you can never have too many pin cushions on hand. I have three in sight right now as we speak and I use them all! You're work is lovely as usual. Whenever I get down, tired or lack inspiration just a quick view of your wonderful work fills me with the energy to do more. Glad to see you are being productive, let's hope I join you soon!
