For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

Where I'm up to

Over the weekend I managed to finish embroidering the text for the pocket which will be concealed within my cloth. Now you can see which quote from my research I have used, but if you can't quite make it out it reads,
'the use of traditional, often time consuming process, alludes to the devotion of a mother'
the time consuming part being highly appropriate for this particular piece of work!

Now I am at the measuring,

Pinning,

and tacking stage.

I enjoy this part of the process just as much as the embroidery/embellishment and it usually comes together very quickly from this point. Not long to go now.

I'm impressed at how this is going- it seems to be very quick from this side of the monitor!

It must be so exciting to make an exhibition. Good luck with all the arrangements and deadlines!

It looks stunning and is making me jealous that I have no time at the moment to make something beautiful
