For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

''the use of traditional often time consuming process alludes to the devotion of a mother''. c K. A. Ruane 2007

bumpy things......

Another section for toe wrap two and more bumpy bits. These are quite a bit bigger than the last ones and I have added hand embroidery to some areas. It is very restful to pick this up of an evening and sit stitching in front of the t.v. .....a quick damp stretch before I go to bed, (the embroidery, not me!!) and it's all dried out and beautiful by the time I've had my beauty sleep.
It's been hectic this morning, won't go into details but I think it's build up of stuff to do, lists to tick before I go away next week. I tick from the top and things get added to the bottom???? Will it ever end...well yes I suppose it will when I actually leave the house and lock the door.
One of the things on my list was to put something out there in the hope that one of you knows the answer. I have had  little help from some of you already and now I would like to know if anyone out there knows of a place in Las Vegas where I am likely to get vintage linen, hankies, runners, napkins, tablecloths..that kind of stuff. I wait with pen and map in hand! It can't all be bright lights and poker surely?

hope others will be able to lead you to vintage shops. they are hard to come by in most places. I don't know of any here in Austin other than the thrift stores. you might check out the thrift shops as well.

Can't help with your quest, I'm afraid, but I look forward to seeing what you do with your discoveries!

Go up to all the old ladies in the casinos and ask them if they have any old linens at home. Tell them you will meet them the next day at the same place and trade them for a couple of casino chips or dollars. You may need an extra suitcase to bring it all home.

Contact Susan Tracy with Quilt Tours of Las Vegas (google her). She would probably know the best locations. I went on her tour and it was my best day in Las Vegas. For $80.00US we spent the day Shop hopping quilt stores in Las Vegas,Henderson and Boulder City, including lunch.

I hope this link works:

According to the list, there are many!!! A local might help you with which ones are especially good. Goodwill & Salvation Army are nationwide thrift stores that collect from local donations. Deseret usually denotes a Mormon organization and they usually have good quality. Are you coming to the USA????? It has been eons since I was in Las Vegas, but it does have a "normal" life beyond the strip. A lot of people retire there from here. Hope this helps.

Love these, and the bits and bobs below...especially the little "cylinders", which I guess are toggle buttons? Sweet and precious!!

Love the bumpy things, so cheerful -- but my favorite is still your white on white things. I've never been to Vegas - have fun and Happy Halloween! Love, Linda

Wow, Las Vegas... all I know about that is Vegas-Elvis, which always makes us smile, even more than Aloha-Elvis. So no help at all really. Will be thinking of you having lots of fun :-)
