For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

five pieces of embroidered silk for five embroidered silk purses

No I'm not cheating, it's not the same picture as last time. Look, there are two very different ones at the bottom. My weekend was doomed from the start. It must have been the wish list that scuppered it. I was in a bit of an unexplained mood on friday, don't ask. I am best ignored at those times, quite a rareity for me actually perhaps that's why I don't deal with it too well. Normal service appears to have resumed anyway. Well apart from exhaustion, my little boy and his band were headlining at a gig last night so dutiful mother and father went to coo over their offspring resulting in me, yes me, being out on the town at 1 a.m. and having to get up for a specific reason at 7 this morning. Matchsticks and strong coffee please! The only thing achieved from my friday wish list is the completion of the final two embroidered purse pieces. Oh and the frames arrived too.

So I haven't made any progress with more books, embellished books, show and tell books any kind of books infact. Not even cut up a tiny piece of paper. I do have an exciting link for you though. Have a look at what Deanna has done with her book, something completely different yet brilliant. There is only one book left in the shop now so I think I had better get cutting up and embellishing soon.
First job though, today, tonight, any minute now, purses to put together but before I go......we have a new baby in our family, she is very cute, adorable infact and I just want to say welcome to baby Lydia!

Sounds to me like you accomplished quite a bit this weekend. Looking forward to seeing the purses. And thanks for the link to my blog. Hope it inspires others to embellish your lovely little books.
Welcome to the world, Lydia.

Hi new follower here. I am totally loving your work. Your neatness and colours and designs. Everything is delightful. I am just starting to get to grips with a few stitches with some felt appliqué. No edges to turn under te he. So I am inspired by your work. I shall take a closer look later when on a proper computer. The iPod is a bit small to surf properly!!
