For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

''the use of traditional often time consuming process alludes to the devotion of a mother''. c K. A. Ruane 2007

why? part 2

back again! sorry! I had to explain yesterdays post.......... O.K. it would have helped if I had explained properly yesterday but yesterday was THE strangest day, in my head anyway. What I should have said at the end, which didn't get said , was that these quotes are the reason I do what I do. They are the things that drive me forward. These are the words that could be about me, for me, from me.

thankyou so much for all the e-mails, comments and questions. I am fine, really. x

Beautiful quotes. I love change and a new challenge. Life is an adventure. You inspire change in others by the creative things you produce so keep feeding that creative spirit.

Hi Karen, Your calligraphy work is gorgeous! I understand absolutely where you're coming from with these quotes, and love how you incorporated them into this work.
Happy Easter!
