For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

the same pocket but this time with labels...

My labels arrived yesterday, early afternoon. Remember my labels? I said they were going to be printed with a phrase, a sentence that was relevant to me and the person without the internet who I was making this wrapping cloth for? And if you know her then mums the word!! shhhhh.....
(for the embroider, embellish create girls you have a video about these, check your e mails)
Anyway, back to labels. I am making this cloth for my Aunt but in actual fact she is more like my sister, we are very close in age. My Father was 21 when she was born and then I wasn't too far behind her. I come from a male dominated line...I have 3 brothers, no sisters. My dad was one of 3 brothers and no sisters to my Aunt, my mum only had brothers. Although I have lots of Aunts by marriage, this cloth is for my only birth Aunt....my one and only true Aunty.......did you keep up? It's something I call her, I address her cards that way at Christmas and Birthdays....we understand.
She doesn't have internet but her kids are all over facebook.....I am really hoping this can be kept quiet. Wish me luck!

Hi Karen, I love your labels! Such a nice addition. I wanted to take the Ledger class, but I'm still on the last class - still haven't watched all the videos yet! You gave up Soooooo much information. Love to watch your videos though. I am beginning to stitch the pieces of my cloth together - adding some prarie points in between the seams. I recently watched your video on the narrow strip of "snippets." I'm going to make a few of those to fill in the odd openings in my cloth. I have made two pockets also.
Maybe next time you offer the ledger class I can take it. Or maybe you should offer an "On-going extra-mile embellishment" class to follow the last one - not that I want to make you any more work . . .
Love, Linda
