For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

process

From this,

to this,

a strip to fit a specific section on my wrapping cloth. Small snippets, leftovers embroidered, titivated. This may well evolve into a pocket. I have been asked what I will put in my pockets. Very often there isn't anything physical in there. I put love in there, or private thoughts.
A short visit today, my little girl is home. I'm off to be a mum......
