For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

pins and sections

Ooops...I'm a little late today. Truth be told I got carried away titivating my kitchen. Sections of my cloth are also being titivated, well joined, examined and pinned if you can call that titivating. This cloth is nearing completion and this is the point at which I make final decisions re placement, stitch choice for edges and seams etc. It is also the point at which I figure out how many 'extra' pieces I need and start planning those pieces. By my reckoning I need three more pieces. One approximately 10 inches square, another 2 x 8 inches and most exciting of all a very long, narrow section which is exciting because it's going to be a pocket. Yes...I get excited about pockets........nothing wrong with that......

Titivating is such a marvellous word, and never more perfect than for describing your pondering of your AMAZING cloth. Mesmerising...

very pretty piece of work. I can't tell from the photos, but on the sections where you have multiple bullions, how long are they? In the pictures they appear long. Here in the US I can't find straw needles any where to use to make them, especially a long length one.

This is the exciting bit, watching it all come together to form one amazing cloth

This is looking absolutely sumptous. A cloth with a pocket.. what a lovely idea! What will you keep in it? Another beautiful but secret fragment perhaps?

no, nothing wrong with having a passion for pockets - although like other people I'm wondering what you will keep in it..
