For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

oh no....she's been painting again..

I have been painting again...another hour or so that's all. I figure if I get an hour in every few days then I will become more confident, the painting will improve. Embroidery has also been happening please don't think I have ''gone off'' embroidery, that would never happen. I have some pictures of white cloth to show you next time... this has not become a painting blog. The video is very short, about four minutes.....
The new classes are filling up brilliantly, thank you. So if you want to join us, especially on the ledger journey you need to go here to register.
I don't normally talk about current events on here but I really have to say that I am SO excited about the Thames Pageant...I really can't wait. I am counting the minutes, it's going to be amazing.

very lovely post today...enjoyed the story about the buttons. somethings things are too valuable to be lost so it's a talisman for you. i was that leicester lass when princess margaret got married and remember the excitement over that. still can visualize the official portrait of her in her peach/pink gown. no one celebrates like our royalty can i can only imagine how wonderful the pageantry down the thames will be - can't even begin to picture it. off the kids get at least one school holiday. cheers.

The stories you tell are so lovely. Everyone has, or at least that's what I think, these little tales but most of us keep them to ourselves. And therefore: Thank you for sharing!

love the painting of flowers and the your story of your buttons.
The Queen's Jubilee Pageant was amazing. Hope you enjoyed it too. The choir at the end deserved a medal for carrying on despite being soaked through by all the rain, they must have been very cold.
hugs.

Oh yes she's been painting again!!!
So delicately beautifully observed - isn't drawing and painting a great way to really 'look'at things... and the buttons, well - I understand!

Such a shame about the weather - we said the same as Iceni about the poor choir, soaked to the skin. Still, this is summer in Britain! Liking the painting very much.

Your painted floral motifs are really beautiful. You've captured a fluidity in applying the watercolor. I'm also in awe of the variety of the colors in your paint box. Thanks for the link about the pageant.

As talented a watercolourist as embroiderer, clearly!

I love these painting slots - even if I did mistake your paintings last time for the real thing (shows how good they were!!). Your painting is so delicate and sensitively executed.. and I was so touched by the story of those buttons... so precious that you take them everywhere.

It's too bad watercolour paintings wouldn't last on fabric....that would be a sublime blend!
