For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

just a few bullion knots

An edge today, one edge embellished with bullion knots. I've also got a little painted patchwork here too, from way back, a former life. Heck if I had only photographed the knots you would all be asleep by now....you may well be nodding off anyway.
I have been racking my brains for something deep and meaningful to talk about today...all I can come up with is my weekly supermarket trial which happened first thing this morning and the weather. Yes, it's Ark building time again and apparently we are under an amber warning. I knew there was a reason I was happy to live at the top of a big hill.

If only it would rain here.
If only I could make Bullion Knots like yours.
If only I didn't have to go to the grocery store this morning.

Oooooo, those look so nice. What type of thread did you use? It's so lustrous and smooth.

I hope the amber warning doesn't turn red.

Love the painted patchwork, by the way!

Friends on one side of the Atlantic don't want any more rain and others on the far side of the Atlantic want rain (I used to live near Fort Collins and so recognise some of the pictures of the wildfire that has gone through there and know a family who were evacuated). Here it has been relatively dry but a week of rain ahead for us by the look of it. Looks like I might actually get the chance for some embroidery then

Your bullion knots are beautiful Karen - is there any chance of a masterclass tutorial? I have tried to do these but I think my thread was too thin and they were too short. What is the best type of thread to use? Many thanks.

I do so love those rows of bullions! I wonder if it might be a good idea to buy shares in the company that makes the thread because I know these use a LOT!!
