For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

sorting

I'm sorting out, picking, choosing, deciding, trying to establish some kind of order within the chaos that is my stash of work, supplies, cloth, thread....you know what I mean. I know you do because I would bet you have similar chaos. During the course of my extending embellishment class I created a LOT of samples. That's a good thing, a portfolio is taking shape. Some however are kind of repeated, similar. So I filtered out three things that I do not need. These are now listed on Big Cartel. Believe me, three from the masses I have is not many. I could have been more ruthless but obviously I am not made that way so chaos still reigns, just on a tiny, miniscule, smaller scale. In truth it looks no different but at least I tried.
Today damp stretching is taking over the house, it's everywhere. The ironing pile is growing...ignoring it as I walk past with my eyes shut will not work for much longer....we will have no clothes to wear. and....I am having some time off this week...not yet, later. It is my birthday (21 again!!) on Wednesday so plans are afoot for cake and such and I know I have been good so I should get lots and lots of presents. Hmmm, wonder if that Butler/Maid will arrive at long last?

What a lot of fun it must have been to sort through all your samples, it would have taken me ages! Enjoy the rest of your weekend

The only time my workroom is neat and tidy is when I move it and not used it for a while - both unfortunately are the case at the moment. Waiting for a rainy day with nothing else to do and haven't had one of those in a long while either. Oh well! Enjoy your chaos

I have given up. My sewing area will always be chaotic. Every time I get it company clean, I begin a project and in short order it is a mess again! Your hearts in the post below are so beautiful. Early birthday wishes! I have toyed with the idea of a maid/housekeeper, but then realize that I would have to pick up the clutter so she could clean. The clutter is the part that takes so much time! LOL! Wishing you much fun this week.

Ask for a gentleman or lady who is willing to do your ironing for a year! Wouldn't that be an awesome present?

I love the idea of a portfolio taking shape. Prepping for the classes has additional benefits!
also like the idea of a butler! :)

The happiest of (belated) birthdays to you - I assume there will be (was?) cake! I wonder if the ironing could be disguised as damp stretching?
