For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

embellishing

The latest titivated section of my new white cloth. Cutwork holes with snippets of my ridiculously cheap vintage lace frothing out from inside. This is the section with the wonderful tiny label that I discovered....I am thinking this is my favourite section and will always be my favourite section. I do believe that this piece is now finished, can be ticked off the list. I appear to be making progress....amazing....
I will be gone for two days...I miss you already....be good when I'm gone. I will be back on Thursday, a little older but probably not any wiser.....

and just because I can

tit·i·vate/ˈtitəˌvāt/

  1. Make small enhancing alterations to (something): "she slapped on her warpaint and titivated her hair".
  2. Make oneself look attractive.

Nap
Backing, Generally a quilting term that defines the fabric used as the back layer ....

will there be a hair color change within the next couple of days? hope your birthday is grand. i know 2 definitions of nap... one being a short sleep...and the other being a fabric with a pile which creates a different effect from different angles...and now thanks to you...a 3rd definition.

Karen - I'm sorry I didn't write back. I'm fine, extremely busy with my art... but always peeking in on your lovely stitches.

No - I have not picked up my class project at all. I had 3 shows since then, but nothing until December now, so who knows what will happen over the summer!?

Will keep in touch and hopefully get around to reading everyone's blogs soon!
