For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

titivations 4

You can all breathe a sigh of relief.....today is the last day of titivations..for now anyway. I have finished on edges and am moving to more concrete finishing, backing, binding and such. No doubt there will be more titivating going on but as part of other things, complimenting other things.
The sewing machine will be out this afternoon for a few little things that require its use...I'm not the biggest fan of the sewing machine as you know but have to concede it has served me well recently.
Can I remind you about a new group on flickr...pretty please. It isn't for a class or anything to do with me really. I did start it up but only because there was a need...I couldn't find a group for embroidered knots. For specifically French knots yes but not Bullions or other knots...Colonial for example. If you want to join then just go here and request an invite and that's it...totally free, no obligation, it won't be policed by me or anything...well unless of course you put woodwork pictures in there! I am certain there must be more people than me addicted to knots and we all need somewhere to put them don't we?

I'm going straight over for the french knot group! I didn't realised there wasn't one!! What an oversight and thank goodness you were here to correct it.

Beautifully titivated! I love those silk tassels. And I just clicked over quickly to the embroidered knots group. Wow! What beautiful work. I will request membership just so I can find it again, but don't have anything good enough to go on there in the 'French and other knots' department.

awwww - do you mean that french knots done on a piece of wood wouldn't be acceptable? Shucks! Seriously - couldn't little holes be drilled into wood and then filled with french knots? Hmmmm.....
