For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

I must.....

I really must learn better time management. I am working on a large piece at the moment which started life as part of my last class. I want to see it through to the end...it still needs work. It will be formed from two pieces, the first of which you have seen before here, the second section is in its very early stages. Trouble is that although the majority of these pieces will be hand embroidered certain aspects require the sewing machine and there lies my poor time management.....I always seem to arrive at the sewing machine stage in the evening, after 7  when I have neither the will nor the energy to get the machine out, set it up etc etc.......It happened again last night, no learning from experience going on here as you can tell so what to do. An evening spent without hand embroidery is as alien to me as an evening spent on the sewing machine. Now you can probably deduce that there is always a little bit of something hanging around here that will take a few hand stitches even if there is no end result in sight. Embroidery for the sake of it, for the sake of my sanity, for pleasure. As good a reason as any I would say. So I picked this up and the result is in today's pictures....
and just so you know...I am having white withdrawals.......there may be white pictures imminent.

if it wasn't for the fact that my machine is always open and set up in a separate room, i would probably never use it. i understand your dilemma but your doodling is wonderful.

I can't get to grips with a sewing machine at any time of day, so you are still way ahead of me!

My sewing machine is always ready to go (possibly doesn't have the proper colour thread, but at least the machine is ready). Must admit it hasn't been getting much use lately since the hand-stitched white took over my life.
