For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

extending

My current piece is being extended, added to, embroidered, French Knots, Bullion knots, a mass of hand stitch. It's taking shape, I love it, the next bit is scary. More of that when it happens in case I chicken out...
Sadly I must put this away for a couple of days as there are other things to be done...you can have a look at one of those tomorrow....

something scary, challenging, risky...usually brings about more inspiration. it's just cloth and can always be 'fixed' in some new, exciting way.
