For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

knots...

French knots, bullion knots, vintage lace, silk dupion.....that was my Saturday night how about you? Well actually...the knots were preceded by an evening meal out courtesy of my other half. I think he fears he is a single parent I spend so much time on the computer!
Thanks so much for all your book related comments yesterday, I really appreciate them. I must confirm however that I am not actually IN the book...merely gracing the cover. Please don't rush out and buy it wanting to see my efforts as I fear you will be disappointed.
Now you will forgive me if I don't hang around...my shower just burst into flames.....(yes, honest)

7 pm update
I am so sorry if I worried anyone....please be assured that I am fine.....the only wreck is the shower, not even my nervous system has been affected, it's only wonky stitching that produces that effect on me. Basically I was in the shower, all lathered up and relaxed....the box with all the electrical stuff in and the on/off switch, temperature knob etc is around 2 foot away from anyone who is showering....and basically it just started burning, smoke and flames...I was calmness itself, stepped out, I had managed to turn it off...covered in suds mind you...the bath got rid of those....and now the mains link to the shower is disconnected to ensure it is safe and tomorrow I will have to get a nice man out to do something....no panic just a painful bank balance I expect....

p.s. yes, I am  being credited in  full for the book cover....

those last few words are kind of frightening. hope all is well. is your name on the cover of that magazine to acknowledge that the work is yours?

Um. There just doesn't seem to be the right comment to a shower bursting into flame. I hope there wasn't too much damage.

I love the bullion knots on your pieces. I use them alot as well and your pictures today highlight the difference the thread makes. What did you use?

I like the filet lace fragment..

Not quite the relaxing event it was meant to be then? Was this part of the new bathroom? Hope it doesn't take too long or too many pennies to get fixed

Glad to hear that you are okay and the house is fine. I am sure the nice man will have it all fixed up soon.

I love the pictures for today-the knots are so beautiful. As for me, I cannot seem to stop working on mood boards-I have two almost ready to post! WOW-you sure push me to explore-gotta love that!

Can any of us ever have an uninterrupted shower or bath. I was hoping that as children grow up it would be possible, but apparently not!
Congratulations on the book cover, it looks beautiful.

Poor you - but you really shouldn't be using your computer in the shower...
Having a serious obstacle to my mood board production: DH has disconnected the printer as he needed the space to mega-back-up the computer.... :(

Will have to work out how to do it digitally.

Amazing knots! That combination of silk, vintage and your knots is gorgeous.

I hope your shower situation has been sorted out?!

Oh goodness - I just read the cryptic bit about the shower being on fire and then went on to read that you were actually IN it. Then my fertile mind had to get itself around why on earth you would be on the computer and showering at the same time. Gives a whole new meaning to multi-tasking!! Yikes. Glad you're okay and hopefully the bank account will be too.
