For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

sampling......

Sampling continues for 'extending embellishment'. I am very nearly there, the sampling helps, it feeds me, it feeds what I am going to feed you. Sampling is probably the best way to generate ideas, lost in stitch and the brain still ticks, I write it down, I do a doodle that most likely won't mean anything to anyone else but I know, I know what it means.
My suggested equipment list is finished, tick. My explanatory shop blurb...no. My welcome e-mail.....no. So that's the plan, finish those two and we are off.  Tomorrow? Maybe.....
As for snow...what snow? It has snowed to the North, South, East and West of us...not here. I am happy, a little snow free enclave, that's where I live. My daughter, not so lucky.....train cancelled, abandoned due to ''adverse'' weather.... mid journey around midnight last night in Central London....she trekked...boots not stilettos thankfully!!

I love watching the results of your creative mind at work. Sampling is wonderful. I like to play with stitches (knit and crochet) make notes of stitches and gauge, put it all away in a box, then someday while falling asleep at night a brilliant idea hits. I take the sample out and it gives birth to a new garment or other item. Yes, creative sampling! Yours are just beautiful!

Like Deanna, I like the grid effect too. Beautiful white, just like the 4" of snow outside.

I have been doing lots of French knots just lately and I think of you every time I do them. Your samplers are looking good

Ooh, this is beautiful Karen. I also love how you've achieved the grid effect.
No snow here at all, not even a sprinkling.... Quite pleased about it actually. It was SO cold last year!
