For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

raggedy.....

Yes, raggedy...that's the cloth not me....although I do feel a little frayed around the edges myself today...not going there though, that's between me and my hormones! This piece is the second to last part of the jigsaw puzzle that is, or rather will be, my next white cloth. As you can see my love for the Bullion Knot is continuing and could become another obsession any day now.  Back to the cloth...one long thin strip left to put together and embellish and I will be there. Edges....don't ask...I do have a desire for those but time is the question...how much time can I spend making puffs? ....we shall see.
I want to thank those of you who popped over yesterday to see the work my girls have created, masterpieces all of them...I take my hat off to them all....they are amazing.

i do love raggedy edges. i like the contrast between the cloth and the edges. i'm thinking i will have some raggedy edges on my cloth with a bit of 'raggedy stitching'. and yes, the bullion knots are magnificent...and not at all raggedy.

I agree with you on your girl's work. All beautiful. I'm feeling a bit raggedy myself today. Must be something in the air. Take care!

I've been without the comp for days and look what I've missed! I love the stem and open leaves bit! Going back to see what else there is.....

The cloth is looking beautiful, it's lovely to see the cream with the pure White, and I love the way you work over and with the pre embroidred pieces.

Quite happy about raggedy edges on fabric, but do keep an eye on the raggedy hormones - I know how they can get in the way!

I'm practicing the Bullion Knot these days and they are just so difficult!
I've also done some pinwheels and they just don't look... hmm... good.
Oh well - practice. And practice. And studying your stitches:-)

So lovely - I could look at your work all day. Don't suppose you have given any further thought to writing that book?? (hint, hint).
