For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

''the use of traditional often time consuming process alludes to the devotion of a mother''. c K. A. Ruane 2007

joining....

Yes I do have visitors....Yes I do have a full house....Yes I have fed everybody......Yes I have sent them all out...peace......hoovering done. Why does having more people in your house always mess up the carpets? For now we have immaculate carpets...for now. We also have quiet time to sew and join sections of my wrapping cloth...these were tacked last night and today they will receive a little TLC and be prettified even more. In a full house during daylight hours sewing time is in short supply...in the evening, even in a full house sewing can be done, on your lap whilst you converse with everyone so that's OK then....tonight I will sew too..........

It's nice to have visitors, but also nice when they go again, your cloth looks wonderful Karen, I enjoy participating in your workshop, and to make my own cloth.

the perfect and extreme embroidery should have given it away but now I'm sure! The carpet thing is sounding a little OCD! I am (despite your OCD thingy) hoping I can join your next course, I'll know about a day before you start it because I am so organized.

Ah Karen you may not get much time to stitch but you do get time to spend with your daughter which in the big scheme of things is what you would really prefer.
Make the most of it while you can.

Beautiful, delicate joins...I'm glad you are still finding time to stitch while your visitors are with you. Always a busy time for the 'woman of the house' when it is full of visitors.
I dont know how you do it all.

So beautiful and something we can all aspire to. However, do take time out from stitching to enjoy your family - the stitching will wait.
