For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

Extending Embellishment

Finally, it's here. My new online class.
Creating our own unique surfaces for embroidery we will explore hand stitch over a six week period. Using simply woven cloth and delicate papers these surfaces will mimic lace and the fragile textiles of our history. Combined with complimentary fabrics of your choice techniques demonstrated can be applied to your own work or alternatively join me in creating two unique pieces of Textile Art, born from tradition yet developing into a modern, contemporary form.
This class is suitable for all skill levels as comprehensive instruction will be given throughout.
Access to all resources which include a student blog, new, improved video demonstration, PDF documents and a dedicated flickr group are available permanently, continuing after the initial six week instructional period.
More information comprising a suggested equipment list and ''welcome'' document will be provided within 24 hours of course registration.
Registration opens Monday February 6
Learning begins Monday March 5.

One of these days I will be able to join in again, and I am looking forward to that day. Meanwhile, I will have to admire from afar.

Looks like you made the change over successfully. I like the larger picture format.

Anything on the computer is time consuming, so I appreciate how many hours you must have put in making the switch. Now you can get back to stitching and sharing with the world full time.

I hope it's a successful class for all concerned - I'm sure it will be!

Gee thanks for dangling the possibility of this in front of me. I am going to be strong and resist, despite having a serious case of the 'wants'. I know me though and if I sign up for this before I finish the current class I will never finish the first one...oh my fickle heart!!
