For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

show and tell

This video tells part of the story regarding my ''fiddly '' sampler. It is in a different format and I am hoping it is better quality than my previous videos on here. So fingers crossed, get the kettle on, put your feet up and hopefully enjoy!

Brilliant, next best thing to actually picking it up for myself. Much easier to see the mirrors and buttons

i enjoyed the video. scrim is something i have a lot of here and i use it in many different ways. here in the US we can get the bleached scrim which is white but the beige scrim is much more common. the quality of this video was excellent. have fun in class.

Great video Karen and you are right a video gives something totally different than pictures do.

Thanks for this beauty!

What a pleasant surprise to see your lovely work in a video.

This video was excellent Karen! Good lighting and just right on how close the work was.
Your work is so inspiring. Thank you for the tip about bleaching the scrim. I do think it references fine old lace very well, and yet gives another dimension.
Looking forward to seeing how the rest of the piece develops. I am so glad to see that someone else works without a specific plan - just an idea and then let the piece define what to do next.
thanks!

Oh, the video was wonderful. Somewhere safely packed away I have some vintage curtains. I think they would work wonderfully for some cutting up and adding my own hand work.

Karen, thank you so much for your faithfulness to your blog. I look forward to it every day.

I am so sad that I can't join in your next class. Please, please, please say that you will offer it again.....maybe next fall! Yes, I am begging here. ;)

fab video Karen, brings it all to live, very touchy feely. love the top piece - just like barnacles.

The video was great-I could not make it larger like I could the other video's but it was really clear and nicely done! Thanks-for those of us who miss our classes with you-it was good to hear your voice!

Karen, so lovely to hear your voice...the video is fantastic. A great way to communicate what you are doing, how you are feeling about your work.
As always, beautiful stitchery ... I never tire of the white on white. And the delicacy of the scrim work shows beautifully via the video.

Wonderful vid, Karen! I could almost feel the fabrics.

The fabrics seem even lighter and more fragile on the video - very intriguing!
