For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

''the use of traditional often time consuming process alludes to the devotion of a mother''. c K. A. Ruane 2007

pins.....

This morning I have been playing with pins. Pins have been added to my ''fiddly sampler''. The mirror section is now pinned to the lower section with a bit of embroidered scrim sandwiched in between. My pocket has been pinned....do you remember my pocket? It now has the back pinned to it. I am hoping to stitch these later today and will show pictures of the ''whole'' of both when that's done.
Also, as well as being the first day of the rest of my life.....it is the first day of embroider, embellish, create 2012!!! It is so exciting...another bunch of wonderful people who think I can teach them something about embroidery...it's not too late either if you want to join in....just go here to read more and register, or go to my special page to read more just for the heck of it!!

Beautiful! I so wish I was in the class as I know it will be filled with beauty. Wishing you and your students needles that thread themselves and may they dance across the cloth.
