For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

cross stitch....

Cross stitch.....some new on silk and some not so new on cotton and silk. I love, love, love cross stitch.....in fact thinking about it, if there was a gun to my head I don't think I could choose between cross stitch and French Knots...love for a stitch...yep that's me. The simple things in life are the best.
My main reason for troubling you today though...not to dribble over cross stitch but to unleash you on my girls. The flickr group for the January embroider, embellish create class is looking amazing and I wanted to direct you over there to drool over the amazing work....and remember...week one isn't even over. For some it's only day two.......check it out here....

Always hated cross stitch but love French knot and daisy stitch. This is because I am NOT a precise person.

I've got cross stitch all round the house Karen but your white on white looks stunning.

Stunning cross stitch Karen! Tell me - do you get it so even (on a non-evenweave fabric) by chance, or do you plan it out? I've always loved your cross stitch calligraphy.

Do you use some sort of scrim or whatever the technical term is for a cloth you use for a guide to do cross stitch and then you pull the threads away? Or do you get such regular stitching because well you're just brilliant at it?
