For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

last night....

I have two new obsessions at the moment. One I can't share until my button girls have been let in on it...next week for you maybe. The other...the bumpy bits that are finding their way more and more onto toe wrap two.
This piece is evolving beyond what I had imagined and I am turning to this now when I am not making buttons. It is so much bigger that toe wrap one and so very different with much more striking cloth and so much more contrast. I added more bumps last night whilst watching T.V. Now I want more.....so I guess that means I will have more, it is after all up to me.
I am going to clarify what a 'toe wrap' is before I go as I get asked about it a lot so if you already know you can turn off now.....
I made a lap quilt, a throw for myself. I said I was going to use it to keep my feet warm when I am curled up on the sofa. I got mail upon mail saying that it was too nice to cover my feet....so toe warp one was born. Hope that clears that up and may I say...what's wrong with my feet? I may have the most beautiful feet you have ever seen, more than worthy of a gorgeous cloth to cover them. Actually I don't...but perhaps they need pity...and beautiful cloth.

I love the bumpy bits, I began to realise how much as I got to the end of my cloth. Maybe I'll have to do another one, just for bumpy bits

Well, you can't have it in your lap when you're stitching something else so what better use than to cover and warm your tootsies? I'm up and about so much I have to stick with socks but if I were sitting and stitching, I'd go for it!

I don't sit in one place long enough to use a toe wrap. 'bumpy bits'---I like the way that sounds.

It's certainly going well. Speaking for myself what I need in the winter is a woolly rug for my toes!

One with beautiful feet deserves a gorgeous toe-wrap!

Very dapper, kind of reminds me of a victorian show man's outfit.

I just hate feet unless they are absolutely perfect..and 'toe wrap' makes me think of bandages....seems such a shame. Can't you call it....oh I can't think of anything else. Ok toe wrap. I quite liked 'toe warp' though as well.

Bumpy bits is a great description (much better than calling them outie belly buttons). Lucky toes to be wrapped in this!
