For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

excited......

Yipee!! It's Monday!! My article is out....it looks so good. Please, please, please go and read it. I sweated blood over this. Grammar was checked, spelling was checked...if it was for teacher I would have hoped for a 'B' at least. It starts on page 37, be sure to click for full screen...it looks fab!!

The cutwork piece is finished too...regular sweat shop here...it is now listed...
The fabric strips I showed yesterday are damp stretched and looking gorgeous....I had itchy fingers though whilst I was waiting so started another piece...I may show you tomorrow. It will depend on whether I give in to my hankering for curtain making. I use the term curtain making very loosely....a simple runner for my kitchen, Broderie Anglasie with a printed cotton edge....I want to I really do...can I put the paper down though?

p.s. Rachel.....can't get on your blog...AArgh!! Not ignoring you I promise....

your article is wonderful. what you say is important. it is so necessary to continue to remind a society that has minimized this work, just how integral it indeed is.

No wonder you're excited! I've not only read the article (for which I give you an A+ not a B) but I have also downloaded the whole magazine. Very inspiring.

I am so grateful I found your blog (via Flickr) at this particular time in my life. I've signed up for the local embroidery class I was looking at and, as the teacher says she can teach any type of embroidery to people of all abilities, I shall show her some of your work and say "I want to do something like that!"

Hi Karen, It has been a while, I love, love, love your paper piece. I am a bit behind since my trip so I have not seen your article and such but hope to catch up soon. Work is keeping me off the computer. :-( I absolutely loved Sweden and the people! Thanks for your recommendations. Have a great day.

The article looks great. Hope you have stocked your shop really well.

Just love your paperwork, it is just amazing what you do with just a needle and a piece of thread.

Hi Karen,
Wow, have you been busy! I guess those antibiotics are working wonders. Glad you are feeling better!! I was thinking I really prefer your fabric pieces over the paper ones, but the one you show today is wonderful! I love the circles within the squares. I'm having a tea party tomorrow - gotta make fillings for those little sandwiches and raspberry cream for the scones. Bye for now. Love, Linda
